FitnessHQ NYC was founded in 1996 with the mission to provide one-on-one and small group personal training to those committed to leading a fit, healthy and more productive lifestyle.  Our accomplished team of expert, certified instructors offer customized fitness programs for every age and experience level. We operate from various established locations throughout Manhattan and a health club membership is never required for our clients.

If you prefer to train or practice yoga from an on-site office or residential facility, or from the comfort of your home gym, our staff will graciously accommodate. For those who enjoy the many benefits of massage therapy, we offer licensed professionals specializing in sports, deep tissue, restorative and orthopedic techniques.

Stuart discovered his passion for fitness at a young age and became a certified trainer early in his college days as a freshman at Binghamton University.  For over two decades, he's devoted his professional life to establishing the FHQ brand while building a reputation as an innovator in an ever-changing industry.  His clients range from competitive athletes and recreational warriors to Fortune 500 professionals and expectant parents. Stu is always eager for the opportunity to create well-balanced, progressive and effective training programs. He enjoys working with a diverse array of individuals both young and young at heart.

ROB

Credentials: ISSA/AFAA Certified

Specialties: Strength training, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, kettlebell, athletic programming and development

 

Rob's diverse professional background, drive and integrated approach to fitness enable him to provide consistent, positive results for his clients.  After obtaining a bachelor's degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and having performed as a professional stage actor, Rob understands that time limitations are often a factor when trying to achieve optimal fitness results.  He designs flexible programs that allow his clients the freedom to train at their convenience while still being able to maximize the benefits of a fitness program.  No stranger to the rigors of commitment, he became the overall combined kettlebell/CrossFit champion of the 2011 IKSFA NY Open.

JOWANDA

 

Credentials: ACSM cpt Certified

Specialties: Muscular conditioning, fat loss, kettlebell, plyometrics, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), balance improvement, group fitness

 

Jowanda began her fitness career on a quest to challenge the conventional belief that exercise programming must contain an abundance of cardiovascular training in order to be effective.  She developed an original boot camp style approach incorporating strength, power, short burst intervals, balance and core conditioning.  Her client's build muscle, burn fat, increase aerobic/anaerobic capacities, and enhance their athleticism.  Jowanda applies the principle of dynamic muscle confusion by regularly varying her workouts. This prevents the body from becoming complacent allowing for greater energy expenditure and  continued physical development.

JACOB

Jacob graduated Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's degree in biomedical science and a determination to bring a fresh perspective to conventional fitness programming.  He is a master of combining the most cutting edge research in exercise mechanics with proven training techniques.  By applying proper set/rep/rest ratios with strength, kettlebell, TRX and high intensity interval training (HIIT), his custom-tailored programs meet and exceed each of his client's hard-earned goals.  He works with ambitious fitness participants of various ages and ability levels.

CHELSEY

Specialties: Functional strength progression, restrictive postural enhancement, injury prevention/recovery, balance/core development, weight loss, senior populations

 

Chelsey began her fitness career in 2000 with a personal training apprenticeship at the renowned Revolution Studio in Manhattan. Over the course of 15 years, she has built upon that knowledge spending countless hours studying kinesiology, anthropometry, training periodization and nutrition.  Today, she is regarded by his peers as an industry leading wellness expert.  Whether improving a competitive athlete's functional mechanics, or teaching seniors the importance of movement progression, Chelsey's patience and drive both motivate and inspire. Her clients are proof that physical limitations can be overcome when proper coaching meets determination.

GERARD

Credentials: NASM cpt/NASM M.M.A., fms

Specialties: Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, sports performance, plyometrics, functional movement, balance/core conditioning

 

Gerard builds functional, balanced bodies by incorporating the conditioning benefits of boxing, utilizing the power of plyometrics and focusing on core strength.  As an active jiu-jitsu competitor, he understands that movement without restriction is essential to both performance and progressive physical improvement.  Whether his clients are training to test their capicity in the ring, on the mat, or simply to enhance their physical abilities, Gerard teaches that progress begins when hard work combines with discipline. 

DARIA

As a former competitive swimmer, Daria understands the correlation between physical strength and enhanced athletic performance.  She believes that successful fitness programs are based on a foundation of resistance training, whole body conditioning and functional mobility.  Daria is an expert at assessing structural limitations and uses individualized flexibility techniques to improve her client's movement patterns. Her workouts are designed for those who are interested in improving their strength, aesthetics, aerobic/anaerobic conditioning and overall quality of life.

Scott became a professional trainer in 1987 when aerobic exercise dominated mainstream fitness ideology.  He sought to formulate a new training system combining weightlifting and progressive speed development with functional mobility.  His clients built strength, power, muscle and confidence.  30 years later, Scott remains an innovator and the teacher other trainers turn to when they need expert advice.  He contiunes to improve the on-field performance of athletes, transform the bodies of exercise devotees and better the lives of those determined to upgrade their physical well-being.

Sharon's exploration of the yogic lifestyle began while on a life-changing journey through India.  She studied the Hindu spiritual, Ascetic and Ashtanga disciplines central to understanding yoga's ancient origins.  Her teachings fuse those traditions blending postural alignment, movement flow and rhythmic breathing to create a heightened mind-body-spiritual connection. Sharon guides participants through a natural extension of their physical potential while providing a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment. Her students leave each session feeling energized, refreshed and with a heightened sense of self-awareness.

Specialties: Orthopedic massage therapy, neuromuscular/myofascial release, deep tissue, sports, restorative Swedish technique 

 

Brian developed an interest for anatomy, kinesiology and exercise science while earning his BFA at Point Park University of Pittsburgh. He continued his post college studies attending the prestigious Cortive Institute of Boston earning licenses in both massage and orthopedic thearpy.  Today, Brian is a specialist in soft tissue manipulation utilizing a bodywork approach that encourages positive changes in both the facial and musculoskeletal systems. These combined techniques return the body to a more balanced, healthy state ideal for relief from injuries and everyday wear and tear. His clients feel a greater sense of physical awareness and a vast improvement in their movement mechanics.
